I grew up in a family that was very close to God, especially my father, who instilled in us a deep love for Jesus in the Eucharist. When I was 10, I met the Sisters of the Sacred Heart of Jesus for the first time; their joy, dedication and closeness to people sparked in me a longing for consecrated life.
I also learned about their founder, St. José María Robles Hurtado, a priest and Knight of Columbus who was enamored with the Heart of Jesus and the Eucharist. His charism, spirituality and selflessness — even unto martyrdom — deepened my desire to be a religious sister.
During high school, I was a catechist and sang in the choir, an experience that helped me grow in my faith. In Eucharistic adoration, when I was alone with Jesus, his voice echoed within me: “Come and follow me.” I felt called and loved; it was a pivotal moment in my discernment.
To young people who feel God’s call: Don’t be afraid to say “yes.” Don’t be afraid to discover what God has planned for you.
