Addressing more than 800 men gathered at St. Louis Catholic Church in Clarksville, Maryland, Supreme Knight Patrick Kelly challenged them to be men of virtuous friendship and Christian witness.
“Not all friends are created equal,” the supreme knight told attendees of the Catholic Men’s Fellowship of Maryland Conference on March 14. “What we all need — everyone in this room — are the right kinds of friends.”
He explained how Catholic teaching builds on Aristotle’s dictum that the highest form of friendship is based on virtue.
“Our faith teaches us that the reason we need friends is because they help us build the most important friendship of all,” said the supreme knight, pointing to the example of St. Pier Giorgio Frassati, who was canonized last year.
Supreme Knight Kelly concluded by calling those present to deepen their faith and bring the Gospel to others, proposing Cor, the Knights’ parish-based faith formation initiative open to all men, as a valuable opportunity to do so.
